We work to protect, manage and celebrate heritage across NSW.
Heritage NSW works with communities to protect, celebrate and manage our incredible heritage across NSW.
We provide an integrated approach to conserving Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal heritage. We have the responsibility to review applications, to list items on the State Heritage Register, declare Aboriginal Places and register state shipwrecks.
We work with the community to repatriate Aboriginal ancestral remains, administer grants for heritage conservation and provide secretariat services to the Heritage Council of NSW and the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Advisory Committee.
Some of our responsibilities include:
- State Heritage Register listed items
- Aboriginal cultural heritage
- Maritime heritage
- Permits and approvals for works
- Community engagement
Our staff are located across the State and work together to make sure our heritage is protected and conserved for future generations, providing guidance to owners, managers, local government and the wider community about the management of heritage items.
