Public consultation on the Willandra Lake Reburial Project 2021 - an update

Heritage NSW recently referred the Willandra Lake Reburial Project 2021 to the federal government under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act (1999).

Please see Public notices - referrals ยท Basic Portal (environment.gov.au) and filter for Referral Number 2021/8951

The Federal Minister for the Environment, Hon. Sussan Ley MP, subsequently asked for additional public consultation. This public consultation was due to commence on 3 September 2021 for 20 working days.

Currently, there are limitations on travel and gatherings due to COVID 19. This means full and wide-ranging public consultation will be challenging to complete. In light of this situation, the NSW Minister with responsibility for Heritage, the Hon. Don Harwin MLC, has delayed the commencement of the public consultation until 1 November 2021, and extended the period of exhibition to 40 working days.

Further information will be available from late October 2021 on how to participate in the public consultation process.
