new additions to the state heritage register The State Heritage Register continues to grow as significant items are identified. The following were recently listed:

Newcastle Customs House
The Customs House has been a prominent feature of the Newcastle foreshore for more than 130 years. Located near the harbour, it has played a key part in the rich maritime and commercial history of Newcastle.

Merembra Homestead
Located on the original Bathurst to Charlton road, Merembra was built in 1864 by John Bayliss, the son of a soldier who arrived on the Second Fleet in 1790.

Great Drain
These archaeological remains along the Hawkesbury River date from the earliest days of European settlement. They include the foundations of both a stone house and a slab cottage, along with an extraordinary drain cut through solid rock. Found in bushland, these relics are extremely rare and date from between 1795 and 1830. The stone house is linked to a First Fleet convict, Charles Williams.

Dawn Fraser Swimming Pool
The swimming baths in Balmain were in use by January 1882. They were open to men during daylight hours and at limited times for women. The Balmain Swimming Club was founded in 1884 and is thought to be the first swimming association in Australia. The baths and structures were enlarged in 1924.

Bradman Oval and collection of cricket memorabilia
Bradman Oval is the place where Donald Bradman began his cricketing career in the 1920s. It is a remnant of a glebe provided to the Church of England that has since remained in public ownership. Bradman first played on this oval when he was 12 and scored 29 not out for the Bowral Cricket Club.

Bomera & Tarana
Once the homes of wealthy Sydney families, the waterfront mansions known as 'Bomera' and 'Tarana are rare survivors. They were built in the 19th century when Darlinghurst ridge was a favoured location for Sydney's leading families. 'Bomera' was completed in 1858 for William McQuade, a merchant who was involved in the establishment of Randwick Racecourse and Her Majesty's Theatre. One of his sons, Arthur McQuade built the adjacent 'Tarana' in 1888.

Post Offices
Post offices recently listed on the Register include some of the oldest and most significant in the State: Bourke, Casino, Glen Innes, Inverell and Millers Point.

Saraton Theatre
The Saraton Theatre has brought film and entertainment to Grafton for more than 70 years. It one of only a handful of country cinema's from the first half of the 20th century which is still operating in relatively original condition.

Fenwick and Company Boat Store
The Fenwick Tug Boat Company was the earliest tugboat operator on Sydney Harbour. The stone store in Balmain is an early surviving record of the maritime industry of Sydney and was probably built by Fenwick and Co. between 1875 and 1885.

Foreshore land and structures, Green Point
The jetty, boatshed, well and foreshore land were part of Mulholland's Farm between 1891 and 1975. It is the most intact surviving farm on the Brisbane Water, from the farm subdivision era of the 1880s to 1945.

Brewarrina Fish Traps
The arrangements of stone fish traps and walls on the Barwon river in Western NSW are nearly half a kilometre long. They are one of only four traditional Aboriginal fish traps found in NSW, and the only ones to survive in good condition.

Kirkham Stables
This imprerssive colonial building near Narellan was built on one of the earlist farms in the colony outside Sydney and Parrammatta. Built by Surveyor-General Lieutenant John Oxley in 1816, along with a late Victorian homestead and timber store, it is one of the oldest stables in Australia.
