Bush Lives: Bush Futures
This exhibition developed by the Historic Houses Trust features the
inspirational stories of eight families who are tackling the problems of
the bush. It is touring rural NSW and is currently on display in Dubbo. In
February 2000 the exhibition will be shown at the Orange Regional Gallery.

Heritage Landscapes: Understanding Place & Communities
This conference will explore the possibilities provided by the construct of
landscape and its use in the practice of heritage management at both local
and regional levels.

rural landscapes, natural landscapes, created landscapes and private and
public landscapes.

Australia Icomos National Conference
Rural Heritage Practice:
The Burra Charter in the Bush
The themes of this conference are: What do we know about rural heritage?
How can we adapt our practice to suit rural circumstances? How can heritage
organizations and practitioners engage with communities to care for rural
heritage?
Case studies are sought that are of a high standard and address these

The State Heritage Register continues to grow as significant items are
identified. The latest places to be listed are:
Babworth House,
103 Darling Point Road, Darling Point
One of the largest, finest and most intact examples of an early 20th
century grand house in Australia;
Chinese Market Gardens,
Bunnerong Road, La Perouse
Worked by members of the Chinese community for over 90 years, they are are
the last surviving examples of the market gardens once widespread in the
Randwick area;
Epping Forest,
Mississippi Crescent, Kearns
A rare surviving example of an early colonial farm complex on the
Cumberland Plain dating from the 1820s;
Victoria Theatre,
8-10 Perkins Street, Newcastle
The oldest theatre building still standing in NSW;
Yiu Ming Temple,
16-22 Retreat Street, Alexandria
A fine example of a Chinese temple that has been a spiritual and cultural
focus for Sydney's Chinese community for 100 years.
