OCTOBER 1998
Welcome to Heritage NSW. In our October issue we focus on the role of local government and the community in promoting and caring for heritage items. Heritage conservation works best when the community and local council work together to manage the conservation process. Nowhere is this demonstrated more strongly than on the State Heritage Inventory which lists 17,000 heritage items, most of which are under the protection of local government.

This month we celebrate the first successful year for the State Heritage Inventory. Already many organisations, consultants and students have discovered that the inventory on the Heritage Office's internet site is a great starting point to search for heritage listed items in NSW. Heritage NSW also brings you an update on heritage news across the State, including new plans for a graceful Victorian Emporium in Broken Hill and the latest on the Conservatorium of Music site in Sydney.
