Venues

There are an number of organisations that provide regular exhibitions, displays within museums heritage properties that provide educational and enjoyable occasions for all. They can provide a stimulating experience and exposure to the diversity of heritage to be found in New South Wales. Visit the websites listed below to see what's available.

Australian Society for History of Engineering and Technology (ASHET)
ASHET was formed in June 2003. Its objectives are to encourage and promote community interest and education in the history of engineering and technology in Australia.

Historic Houses Trust of New South Wales (HHT)
The Historic Houses Trust is a statutory authority within the New South Wales Ministry for the Arts. It is one of the largest state museums in Australia and is entrusted with the care of key historic buildings and sites in New South Wales.

The Trust manages 13 diverse sites and properties including houses, public buildings, a farm, gardens, parklands, a beach and urban spaces. The Trust holds extensive collections in each of its properties and conducts a dynamic range of programs and activities.

National Trust - New South Wales (NTNSW)
The National Trust of New South Wales is a non-profit organisation athat manages a number of properties that are open to the public. Some properties and collections are a little more unusual than you might expect and are spread throughout NSW. Of course, there are our more traditional properties such as Old Government House in Parramatta, Dundullimal in Dubbo and Lindsay in Darling Point. The National Trust also organises many events relating to heritage in New South Wales.

Parramatta Heritage & Visitor Information Centre
The Parramatta Heritage & Visitors Information Centre, overlooking Parramatta River and the convict built Lennox Bridge, combines visitors information, museum and local research facilities. It offers the ideal starting point to exploring the rich cultural mix and fascinating histories of the Parramatta region.

The permanent exhibition Parramatta: People & Place tells an inclusive story of the Burramatta Aboriginal people, early settlers, extended families and multicultural communities, and how Australia's second colonial settlement developed into its contemporary role as the vibrant demographic centre of the metropolitan region.

Railcorp
In 2005 the NSW railways celebrates its 150th anniversary. Since the first journey on 26 September 1855, our railway system has grown from a modest 22km line between Sydney and Parramatta to a complex, state-wide network covering 11,000km.

This website contains a calendar of events to commemorate the occasion and enable people to learn more about our railway heritage. A collaboration between a range of rail operators and heritage groups, the calendar was made available in The Daily Telegraph on Tuesday, 4 January 2005.

The Royal Australian Historical Society (RAHS)
The Royal Australian Historical Society is a voluntary organisation founded in Sydney in 1901 to encourage Australians to understand more about their history. It has a membership throughout Australia and all its activities and facilities are funded by contributions from its members and benefactors.

Society offers members a calendar of activities which include:monthly excursions to places of historical interest, monthly day lecture series, workshops on special interest and research topics, an annual conference on local history, lectures & seminars and walking tours.

The Australian Institute of Architects (AusIA)
The Australian Institute of Architects is a national body consisting of 9000 members across Australia and overseas. It Organises a number of events that can be accessed through the 'Events' link on their website.
