Heritage Council Appointments
Former head of the then-Department of Urban Affairs and Planning and Liverpool City Council Administrator Gabrielle Kibble has been appointed as the new Chair of the NSW Heritage Council.
Ms Kibble replaces outgoing Chair Michael Collins whose nine-year tenure ends on 31 December 2007.
Sharon Sullivan AO and David Logan have been reappointed for a further three years.

Expert Panel Appointed On Currawong
The NSW Government has appointed a panel of experts to provide independent advice on the proposed listing of the Currawong site on the State Heritage Register.

Heritage Act Review
On 19 July 2007 the Minister for Planning, Frank Sartor MP, announced the appointment of an independent panel of experts to conduct a review of the NSW Heritage Act 1977.
The Panel comprises:
- Ms Gabrielle Kibble AO (Chair) Former Director-General of Department of Planning and current Liverpool City Council Administrator
- Mr Michael Collins Chair of NSW Heritage Council
- Mr John Whitehouse Planning & Environmental Lawyer
The Terms of Reference for the review are as follows:
Undertake a review of the Heritage Act and its operations and make recommendations to reform and update administrative and legislative provisions.
The review should particularly focus on (but is not limited to) the following:
- Duplicative and overlapping provisions with other legislation (including at the national level);
- Strengthening the integration of heritage provisions with the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act (both at the plan making and development control levels);
- State heritage provisions and practice, including but not limited to:
- improvements that can be made to the listing process;
- alternatives to the listing process (eg heritage agreements);
- the public benefit of outcomes;
- the test for achieving State heritage status;
- the role of the property owner or stakeholders and appeal rights;
- the approval process for alterations to items on the SHR, including rights of property owners and stakeholders; and
- resource and time efficiency.
- The functions and constitution of the Heritage Council; and
- Consideration of local heritage processes and whether they warrant improvement.
Following its review the Panel is to prepare a report to the Minister containing its findings and any recommendations. The Panel's current timetable is that the report will be completed and presented to the Minister before the end of the year.

Currawong Workers' Holiday Camp under consideration for State Heritage Register

The Heritage Council of NSW is considering whether to recommend listing Currawong Workers Holiday Camp, Pittwater, on the State Heritage Register in acknowledgment of its heritage significance.

Written submissions are invited from any interested person.
The NSW Government said today (19 September) a proposal to redevelop part of the Currawong site at Pittwater will be assessed as a Major Project, in recognition of the site's environmental and historical significance. Closing date of submissions has been extended to 12 October 2007.
