| Statement of Significance |
The carvings at Murriverie Rocks have attracted a good deal of attention and have been the object of misguided attempts at preservation; they were retouched in 1951 and fenced (Dowd, 293), then retouched again in 1964 (plaque, see attached photo). Currently they are poorly drained and pools of water are forming in the holes: the effects of water might not be so bad, but the existence of the pools is leading to interference; in one 15 minute period there I saw a person washing golf balls and a dog rolling around in the water (photo attached). These carvings deserve serious attention and their drainage should be investigated as a matter of urgency. On the positive side, it is good to note that the carvings are not being vandalised; graffiti and paint are confined to the modern European carvings immediately to their north.
