Heritage Listings

Identifying and listing items of heritage significance are the first steps in protecting and managing those places and objects that we as a community want to keep. Listing our special places on statutory heritage registers provides a legal framework for managing the approval of major changes so that heritage significance is retained and not diminished.

Use these pages to find out about heritage listings in NSW, to search the NSW heritage databases, to nominate a place for listing on the State Heritage Register or to comment on a proposed listing.

Select a topic from the list on the left to find out more about heritage listing or go directly to the Heritage Databases to find out if a property is listed.

To find out more about the benefits and effects of listing for owners and the community, the facts versus the myths, and for a practical insight into how to make sympathetic changes, download PDF Heritage Listing Explained - What it means for you.
