One hundred years ago the business of government was one of the biggest enterprises in the country. We can see the legacy of that activity all around us: post offices, police stations, court houses, railways, roads and bridges. Not surprisingly, much of the significant heritage in NSW is owned or managed by State government agencies.

Government agencies have special obligations under the Heritage Act 1977 (NSW). Agencies are required to compile a register of heritage assets (known as a Section170 Heritage and Conservation Register) and look after their assets on behalf of the community.

Information resources are available on the Publications and Forms section to help State Government agencies in their stewardship of heritage assets for current and future generations.
