Heritage Council Committees

State Heritage Register Committee
The Committee is responsible for recommending the listing of items on the State Heritage Register to the Minister and providing expert comment on planning documents for major heritage places. Agendas and minutes of the State Heritage Register Committee are available online. Its work is managed by Cameron White, Principal Heritage Officer.

Approvals Committee
The Approvals Committee acts in the Heritage Council's consent authority role. It approves, comments on, or suggests amendments to proposed changes to listed items. Agendas and minutes of the Approvals Committee are available online. Its work is managed by Vince Sicari, Principal Heritage Officer.

Heritage Council Panels

Aboriginal Heritage Committee
Provides advice on the appropriate role for the Heritage Council listing and managing Aboriginal heritage and provides a link between government, the Aboriginal people and the general community in promoting Aboriginal heritage.

Archaeology Advisory Panel
Provides advice on significant archaeological sites and promotes accountability in their management, develops policies on archaeological issues and promotes awareness of archaeological resources.

Fire, Access & Services Advisory Panel
Provides advice on fire protection, access and service issues in heritage buildings, promotes research into the use of fire-resistant building materials and reviews existing fire regulations.

Heritage Incentives Panel
Meets twice every two years. Firstly to recommend on the priorities for funding under the Heritage Incentives Program and then to review and recommend the funding on major projects under that program. The next priority-setting meeting is to be held in the second half of 2005.

History Advisory Panel
Provides advice on the role of history in identifying, assessing and conserving heritage. Provides a link between professional historians and community groups with an interest in history.

Interpretation Panel
Provides advice on the interpretation of heritage places.

Maritime Archaeology Advisory Panel
Promotes an awareness of historic shipwrecks, identifies areas for funding and research and initiates measures to protect shipwreck sites.

Movable Heritage Panel
With primary goals achieved, the panel was re-defined as the Movable Heritage Reference Group from 2nd February 2005.

Religious Property Advisory Panel
Provides advice on the protection and management of religious heritage property, assists with assessments of grant applications affecting religious heritage and acts as a liaison for religious organisations on heritage issues.

Technical Advisory Group
