From acorns to big oaks – opportunities available through local heritage funds Special projects
 
Project purpose to provide funding for special, urgent or emergency projects for State Heritage Register and state significant heritage items.
 
Funding

Grants up to $10,000

Minimum project value $5,000

 
Application closing dates

Applications open on Saturday 23 October 2010 and are open all year for this program

 
Who can apply

All owners and managers of State Heritage Register and state significant heritage items.

However you CAN NOT apply for funding if you are a state government agency (but may be involved as a project partner)

Eligible Projects Items listed on
  • The State Heritage Register, or
  • State significant heritage items that are either:
    • Listed as a state significant heritage item in your Local Environmental Plan, or
    • Supported by your local council's heritage advisor or heritage specialist as being of state heritage significance
 
Ineligible Projects Projects for
  • A local heritage item listed on your council's local environmental plan. You can approach your local council for assistance through your local heritage fund. Allocation of these funds is at council's discretion and are generally small dollar for dollar grants up to $10,000
  • A total project value ex GST less than $5,000
  • Previously completed projects
 
Priorities Projects that meet THREE or more priorities  
  • Assist State Heritage Register items
  • Have special needs eg hardship, emergency, special 
  • Are located in remote and rural locations
  • Include urgent works to avert management risks (eg severe deterioration or demolition by neglect)
 
Projects that will NOT be funded Projects for
  • New buildings
  • Routine maintenance (eg lawn mowing, gutter cleaning, carpet cleaning, etc)
  • Projects where adequate funding is available from the applicant or other sources
  • New commemorative monuments or works
  • Purchase of heritage buildings
  • Relocation of buildings or work to relocated buildings
  • Private headstones, unless there is no possibility of descendent support for the project
  • Flood lighting of heritage buildings
  • Purchase of equipment
  • Celebrations and events
 
Common selection criteria for all projects Funding is targeted to projects with
  • Sustainable long term heritage benefits
  • Public benefit and enjoyment
  • Innovation and leadership
  • Capacity and commitment to undertake and complete the project
  • Funding equity and cost effectiveness

Assessing your application

We will acknowledge receipt of your application within 21 days.We will assess your application for eligibility over the coming weeks.If ineligible, we will return it to you.

Applicants must complete a project application and answer all of the questions. In assessing your application, the quality and clarity of information provided will be taken into account

We may contact you to discuss your project or to request additional information.

We respect your confidentiality and will only use this information in relation to your project application.

Eligible project applications are assessed by Heritage Branch specialists and approved under Ministerial delegation.

 
Successful and unsuccessful applications

If your funding application is successful, a funding offer and contract will be sent to you, funding will commence on your acceptance of this funding offer

We will advise unsuccessful applicants by email

 
Project timing and claiming your funds

Applicants must complete and claim the total project funding within 12 months

The Heritage Branch considers the full project cost to be the GST exclusive amount.

If you are GST registered and lodge BAS statements, the Branch is required to pay you an additional 10% GST component on the approved grant amount. It is your responsibility to include the Heritage Branch's 10% GST component in your BAS statements.

If you are not GST registered, the Branch does not add an extra 10% in our payment to you

2011-13 NSW Heritage Grants and Hunter Region Heritage Grants are targeted funding programs. Projects must meet eligibility criteria, program priorities and common selection criteria. However in exceptional circumstances, the Heritage Branch, Department of Planning reserves the right to recommend funding for projects that may not fully meet the program selection criteria, or the transfer of your application to another funding program, if deemed appropriate
