Hunter Region owners and managers of State
Heritage Register and state significant heritage
places and objects to conserve, restore and
upgrade their heritage
properties. |

example |
Your local community
group manages a building which is recognised as
being a heritage item of state significance. You
are planning to do major conservation works to
repair the exterior roof and replace guttering and
downpipes. These works will cost $100,000. You
apply for a $-for-$ grant of $50,000 to assist
with this project.

apply |
All Hunter Region owners and managers of State
Heritage Register and state significant heritage
items.
However you CAN NOT apply for funding if you
are a state government agency (but may be involved
as a project partner)
Hunter Region comprises the following

- Maitland
- Muswellbrook
- Newcastle City
- Port Stephens
- Singleton
- Upper Hunter
For projects located in the Hunter
Region
- You can only apply for works project funding
through the Hunter Region Heritage Grants Works
programs.
- The maximum funding available per heritage
item is $200,000

- Fire, service and access upgrades for
Building Code Australia compliance for ongoing
use and adaptive reuse

- A local heritage item listed on your
council's local environmental plan. You can
approach your local council for assistance
through your local heritage fund. Allocation of
these funds is at council's discretion and are
generally small dollar for dollar grants up to
$10,000
- The total project value ex GST is less than
$50,000
- No retrospective funding for completed
projects

buildings
- Private headstones, unless there is no
possibility of descendent support for the
project
- Flood lighting of heritage buildings
- Purchase of equipment

| Acknowledging
receipt of your application |
We will acknowledge receipt of your application
by auto reply email |

| Assessing your
application |
We will assess your application for eligibility
over the coming weeks. If ineligible, we will
return it to you.
This program is competitively bid. Applicants
must complete a project application and answer all
of the questions. In assessing your application,
the quality and clarity of information provided
will be taken into account.
We may contact you to discuss your project or
to request additional information.
We respect your confidentiality and will only
use this information in relation to your project
application.
Eligible project applications are then assessed
by Heritage Branch specialists
The project assessments are forwarded to the
Heritage Council's Heritage Grants panel.
The Heritage Council then makes recommendations
for project funding approval to the Minister for
Planning |

| Successful and
unsuccessful applications |
If your funding application is successful, a
funding offer and contract will be sent to you
after March 2011 On your acceptance of this
funding offer, funding will commence on 1 July
2011
We will advise unsuccessful applicants by email
after March 2011 |

| Project timing
and claiming your funds |
Applicants must complete 50% of their project
and claim 50% of the total project funding in year
1 and the remaining 50% of the project funding in
year 2
The Heritage Branch considers the full project
cost to be the GST exclusive amount.
If you are GST registered and lodge BAS
statements, the Branch is required to pay you an
additional 10% GST component on the approved grant
amount. It is your responsibility to include the
Heritage Branch's 10% GST component in your BAS
statements.
If you are not GST registered, the Branch does
not add an extra 10% in our payment to
you. |

2011-13 NSW Heritage Grants and Hunter
Region Heritage Grants are targeted funding
programs. Projects must meet eligibility criteria,
program priorities and common selection criteria.
However in exceptional circumstances, the Heritage
Branch, Department of Planning reserves the right
to recommend funding for projects that may not
fully meet the program selection criteria, or the
transfer of your application to another funding
program, if deemed appropriate |
