to provide funding to celebrate Australian local history. For local historical research by community groups and individuals that
- Tell Australian stories in a local context
- Express the diversity and range of Australian culture as it impacts on communities and specific localities
- Highlights and localises pivotal Australian historical events and issues

example |
Your local historical society wants to research a local history suitable for publication on World War One families focusing on sons and daughters for your town's planned upcoming celebrations. You apply for a grant of $5,000.
Your local historical society is planning to employ a consultant to develop a management plan for your community archive collection of photographs which will be implemented by your society. You apply for a grant of $5,000 to assist with consultant costs.

| Who can
apply |
- Individuals
- Community organisations
- However, you CAN NOT apply for funding if you are a state or local government agency undertaking work as part of your statutory responsibilities (but you may be involved as a project partner to a community organisation, individual or business).
- Membership or affiliation with the Royal Australian Historical Society is not required, but welcomed. Membership does not affect the assessment of the application.

Projects for:
- Researching and presenting a local historical, or
- A local archives collection management plan,
or
- A local digital image or photographic collections management plan
Funding is available to cover graphic design costs associated with producing an online or digital publication - (but not costs associated with paper print runs of historical publications or reports).

Projects |
Projects for:
- Cost of paper print runs historical reports and publications
- The purchase of capital equipment such as computers, filing cabinets or display boards.
- Heritage trails, local heritage celebrations and plaque projects
- Projects where the applicant has a poor record of delivering on projects or currently has too many projects in hand
- Interpretation projects - NSW Heritage Grants provides funding for these projects through another program

| Assessing your
application |
Your application will be assessed for eligibility over the coming weeks. If ineligible, we will return it to you.
This program is competitively bid. Applicants must complete a project application and answer all of the questions. In assessing your application, the quality and clarity of information provided will be taken into account
We may contact you to discuss your project or to request additional information
We respect your confidentiality and will only use this information in relation to your project application
Eligible project applications are assessed and approved by the RAHS project selection committee

| Successful and
unsuccessful applications |
If your funding application is successful, a funding offer and contract will be sent to you, funding will commence on your acceptance of your funding offer

| Project timing
and claiming your funds |
Applicants must complete
their project and claim 100% of the total project
funding within 12 months.
The Heritage Branch considers the full project
cost to be the GST exclusive amount
If you are GST registered and lodge BAS statements, the Branch is required to pay you an additional 10% GST component on the approved grant amount. It is your responsibility to include the Heritage Branch's 10% GST component in your BAS statements.
If you are not GST registered, the Branch does
not add an extra 10% in our payment to
you. |

2011-13 NSW Heritage Grants and Hunter Region Heritage Grants are targeted funding programs. Projects must meet eligibility criteria, program priorities and common selection criteria. However in exceptional circumstances, the Heritage Branch, Department of Planning reserves the right to recommend funding for projects that may not fully meet the program selection criteria, or the transfer of your application to another funding program, if deemed appropriate
