| Program purpose |
for conservation work projects and works to meet SHR minimum maintenance standard works; and works to meet Building Code Australia upgrades (fire, services, and access) for ongoing and new uses to heritage items listed on the State Heritage Register and of state heritage significance |

| For example |
Your local community group manages a building which is recognised as being a heritage item of state significance. You are planning to do major conservation works to repair the exterior roof and replace guttering and downpipes. These works will cost $50,000. You apply for a $-for-$ grant of $25,000 to assist with this project |

| Who can apply |
All owners and managers of State Heritage Register and state significant heritage items.
However you CAN NOT apply for funding if you are a state government agency (but may be involved as a project partner) |

| Eligible Projects |
Items listed on the State Heritage Register, or
State significant heritage items that are either:
- Listed as a state heritage item in your Local Environmental Plan, or
- Supported by your local council's heritage advisor or other heritage specialist as being of state heritage significance
You can apply for funding concurrently through this program and other NSW Heritage Grants 2008-2009 programs. If you apply for funding through more than one program, the total available funding for your heritage item will be $75,000

| Ineligible Projects |
Your project is for a local heritage item listed on your council's local environmental plan. You can approach your local council for assistance through your local heritage fund. Allocation of these funds is at council's discretion and are generally small dollar for dollar grants up to $10,000
Your total project value is less than $25,000 |

| Priorities |
Projects that
- Adaptively reuse heritage items
- Are major heritage places in public use
- Are heritage places with public access and visibility
- Are linked to heritage tourism
- Include urgent works to avert management risks (eg severe deterioration, demolition, or demolition by neglect)
- Form part of a heritage group or a precinct
- Involve heritage places with intact and well managed settings (eg well maintained streetscape or landscape setting)
- Have not received previous government funding support in the last 5 years

| Projects that will NOT be funded |
Projects for
- New buildings
- Routine maintenance (eg lawn mowing, gutter cleaning or carpet cleaning)
- Projects where adequate funding is available from the applicant or other sources
- New commemorative monuments or works
- Purchase of heritage buildings
- Relocation of buildings or work to relocated buildings
- Private headstones, unless there is no possibility of descendent support for the project
- Flooding lighting of heritage buildings
- Purchase of equipment

| Processing your application |
The Heritage Branch will acknowledge receipt of your application within 21 days
In assessing your application, the quality and clarity of information provided will be taken into account
We will advise unsuccessful applicants after March 2008
A funding offer and contract will be sent to successful applicants after March 2008. On your acceptance of this offer, funding will commence on 1 July 2008
All projects must be completed and all funding claimed by 30 May 2009
NSW Heritage Grants 2008-2009 is a targeted funding program. Projects must meet eligibility criteria, program priorities and common selection criteria. However in exception circumstances, the Heritage Branch, Department of Planning reserves the right to recommend funding for projects that may not fully meet the program selection criteria
